Glass Industry & Lime
The production of glass from lime is another use of our product that is known through history. Particular screen-grade of limestone is a source of both calcium and magnesium to increase durability and control viscosity during the formation of glass. It is also essential to maintain a consistent quality and to keep low trace elements (i.e. iron, chromium) for better results.
While limestone is generally more cost effective in the production of glass, dolomitic and high calcium lime in powder form can also be applied under specific circumstances. Burnt lime often provides greater transparency to the glass than limestone due to its lower content of organic matter.
Limestone is applied in the production of Soda-lime glass and Fiberglass.
